In The English Department
The English Department have been busy providing various opportunities for our girls to explore a love and passion for reading.
World Book Day on Thursday March 3rd saw students at Lower School dress up as their favourite literary characters. The day saw costumes from texts such as Harry Potter, The Cat in the Hat and The Hunger Games, amongst several others.
Students at Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 have also been engaging with texts by diverse authors this term. Our Key Stage 3 pupils have enjoyed reading and discussing Tomi Adeyemi's 'Children of Blood and Bone'. Pupils at Key Stage 4 have done the same with Chimamanda Adichie's Purple Hibiscus and girls at Post 16 have engaged with the collection of short stories by Bolu Babalola in her text 'Love in Colour'.
Finally, we have even seen some of our students become published authors! Ashonte Saava, Mrittika, Bella-Rose and Rachel in Year 9, as well as Sahra in Year 8 all saw their own poems published in 'Empowered'.
We are really proud of the enthusiasm of our girls in actively seeking to read outside of the set curriculum. Keep it up!
